Norman Gardner has always approached his life with the broad, hands-on confidence of the artist. Never one to let someone else make something for him, Gardner preferred, whenever possible, to make the things he needed or wanted himself. When his daughters had birthdays, graduated or got married, Gardner would make them his gifts himself. When he was bored, he simply taught himself a new skill or craft. When he became curious about something, he figured it out and then took it in his own direction. Here are some examples.
