Introduction

Norman Gardner is an artist whose artistic expression has defied all efforts to confine itself to conventional boundaries. We will attempt to reveal the artist to you but be prepared to be amazed at the range, breadth and depth of Gardner's pursuits. Although marked by rare talent, Gardner did not rise from the ranks of the upper class with the leisure to pursue an artist's calling. Gardner had to find work from an early age to help his mother with the support of his younger siblings, when his father left their home at an early age.

Gardner's natural creativity, artistry and talent served him well and enabled him to build a career utilizing his artistic skills in the support of his obligations first to his mother and later, to his own family. Despite the demands of his country (to serve during the Korean War), his duties as a father (to his wife and four daughters), as well as the needs of his commercial endeavors, Gardner always found the time and means to pursue his first love: fine arts. Over the years, he has created an extensive body of works, primarily sculptures that he has shown and sold broadly. But this is not his only artistic pursuit. Gardner has also delved successfully into carving, collage, print-making, graphic design, painting, book binding, landscaping, jewelry-making, woodworking, writing and even knitting!
