THE EPC HOME PAGE

We hold the world in our handsOur Mission: Educating Atherton residents about environmental issues and seeking to improve the overall environmental performance of the town. We do this with programs that help residents to reduce waste and pollution, enhance their energy efficiency and use of green building, water efficient and clean energy technologies, improve their consumer practices and reduce overall contributions to global warming by adopting effective and meaningful conservation practices throughout our community.

2010 PROGRAM UPDATES
Live Green Logo 2010

The EPC's FEDERALLY-FUNDED ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAM IS COMING THIS SUMMER!

We are working hard to complete development of this program, which will enable Atherton residents to identify their biggest sources of energy savings for the least cost. Supported by Acterra and working in concert with our neighboring towns, Atherton has qualified for a $40,000 in Stimulus Funds, which will support sophisticated energy efficiency analyses in up to 240 Atherton homes, starting in the summer of 2010. Please click on the Programs link to learn more!

Thinking Green LogoTHINKING GREEN THINK TANK

The Thinking Green Think Tank is a resident advisory group that formed in 2008 to assist the EPC in compiling key recommendations to enable Atherton to reduce its town-wide carbon emissions. In 2009, Thinking Green formed two subcommittees—a Green Building Subcommittee and a Home Efficiency Subcommittee—to better develop the details of implementing these two specific recommendation areas. If you are interested in joining the efforts of the Think Tank, the group welcomes more residents to help further its efforts. See the Programs link for more information.

Green Uncle SamWHAT CAN YOU DO?

We are not going to improve conditions on this planet unless everyone is doing their part! Want to know what you can be doing? Start by reading through the new collection of climate reports at our new Climate Central to get updated on what a vast majority of Americans recognize as a major global problem. See our new Climate Science Accepting & Denying List to get a better sense of who stands where. Browse through the pages of our "what you can do" link. Lastly, read our current article, "Responding to Environmental Crises" to see how the BP oil spill relates to our current environmental challenges. We hope you will then consider participating in our upcoming home energy efficiency program, being rolled out this fall.

COMMUNICATION

ATHERTONGREEN: The EPC's Environmental Information Exchange, AthertonGreen, is an email list designed primarily for residents of the Peninsula interested in participating in the growing environmental conversation. Join this growing group and get environmental news, notices, event announcements and hear experts share information about environmental issues. Also access great referrals and advice regarding environmental matters of concern to our community. The Atherton EPC and other town green teams send out notices about their programs and events through this list before it is distributed through other means.
