We hold the world in our handsOur Mission: Educating Atherton residents about environmental issues and seeking to improve the overall environmental performance of the town. We do this with programs that help residents to reduce waste and pollution, enhance their energy efficiency and use of green building, water efficient and clean energy technologies, improve their consumer practices and reduce overall contributions to global warming by adopting effective and meaningful conservation practices throughout our community.

2010 PROGRAMS

Green Uncle SamThe EPC is FOCUSING ON CLIMATE CHANGE!

We are currently working to design this year's program that will help homeowners reduce their high levels of home energy use. This unique and rather cool program will be rolled out in Atherton, Los Altos Hills, Woodside, Portola Valley and Monte Sereno, which all share our high energy profile. If you are interested in helping, there are many different ways to participate. Click on the Support link to the left, to see how you can support the important work we are doing, with your time, expertise, connections, dollars and more! Thank you for your consideration and to help you understand why we think it is important to reduce our carbon emissions, please see the information we are posting now at our new Climate Central page.

Thinking Green LogoTHINKING GREEN THINK TANK: The Thinking Green Think Tank is a resident advisory group that formed to assist the EPC in compiling key recommendations to enable Atherton to reduce its town-wide carbon emissions. Thinking Green has formed two subcommittees—a Green Building Subcommittee and a Home Efficiency Subcommittee—to better develop the details of implementing these specific recommendation areas. If you are interested in joining the efforts of the the Think Tank, the group is seeking more residents to further its efforts. See the group link at Thinking Green for more information.

COMMUNICATION

Energy Bill from NYT Article

Help Us Help You: Could you be paying 2 or 3 times more for energy than your neighbors? If your PG&E bill is more than $1,000 per month, we think so! Take our Survey for Atherton residents and let us know how your home is performing for you. The more we know, the better we can serve your needs. Please go to the EPC's confidential survey and help us out! Look for a report on results here later! (Caption: Click on the photo to go to its source article.)

ATHERTONGREEN: The EPC's Environmental Information Exchange, AthertonGreen, is an email list designed primarily for residents of the Peninsula interested in participating in the growing environmental conversation. Join this growing group and get environmental news, notices, event announcements and hear experts share information about environmental issues. Also access great referrals and advice regarding environmental matters of concern to our community. The Atherton EPC and other town green teams send out notices about their programs and events through this list before it is distributed through other means.
