Collaborative Community Competition
The Atherton Environmental Programs Committee was pleased to host the first annual GreenSTART Environmental Competition and Fair during spring, 2008. GreenSTART was designed to help the whole town of Atherton (and others) start to take actions that have beneficial impacts for our environment today. Drawing upon the more than 6,000 students in the ten Atherton schools, as well as over 6,000 residents, GreenSTART aspired to engage all town groups — Students, Teachers, Administrators, Residents and Town staff — in a cooperative effort to "close the loop on carbon" in our town!
Hope you were there on Sunday, May 4th, for the GreenSTART Fair!
Everyone was invited to join us for the first annual GreenSTART Fair at Atherton's lovely Holbrook-Palmer Park, featuring a showcase of the students' environmental projects, with music by the Banana Slug String Band. There was fun for kids, delicious and healthy organic goodies baked by local residents, a freecycle exchange, an e-waste drop-off and lots more.
Award Presentations happened on May 21st at the Atherton City Council Chambers at 7:00 pm at 94 Ashfield Road. You should have seen the faces of our student winners!
Missed the 2008 competition but still want to help our community rise to the challenge? Please consider helping out with our 2010 program! We can use more help to bring this program to fruition for another season. Thanks for your support.
It's a complete WIN-WIN!
