Collaborative Community Competition The Environmental Programs Committee is please to launch its innovative new program, GreenSTART. GreenSTART is designed to help the whole town of Atherton start to take actions that can create beneficial impacts for our environment today. Drawing upon the more than 6,000 students in our ten schools, their teachers and administrators as well as over 6,000 residents, the program engages all groups in a "closed loop" of action! If you are a Student, Teacher, Administrator, Resident or work for the Town of Atherton, we hope you'll participate and help us reduce Atherton's carbon footprint and have fun in the process! Here's how GreenSTART works [please note new dates!]:

Students in all local schools are eligible to participate in the GreenSTART environmental competition. Simply think of a cool environmental project that you would like to see get done. Find some like-minded friends to work with you. Recruit your favorite adult to be your sponsor. Register your GreenSTART project by submitting a registration form by April 15th and get going. To win, all you need to do is design how you will execute your environmental project and create a presentation about your project to show at the GreenSTART Fair on May 4th. Winners will be selected at this fair!

Teachers, Administrators, Town Staff, Volunteers & Parents can all support this program by suggesting projects and helping students with their choice of environmental projects as project sponsors. Schools compete to win our school grand prize for the most student environmental projects submitted!

Residents participate in the home environmental efficiency competition. First, we help you measure your family's carbon footprint (we make this easy!) Then, use our tools to see what ways you can reduce this footprint by taking some simple steps (and possibly some harder steps, if you are up for it) to reduce this a little or a lot. Then re-calculate your family's new carbon footprint. See how much you've saved! If you've already taken green steps, let us know—those count! Register as a participant by submitting our Resident Participant Form and the suggested offsetting donation. Your donation is a fully tax-deductible contribution to the Atherton GreenSTART FUND that supports students' environmental competition prizes and projects. Then, join us on May 4th at the GreenSTART Fair for lots of fun and exploration and vote for those student projects that you think will have the best environmental impact for our community. It's a complete WIN-WIN!
