Collaborative Community Competition
The Atherton Environmental Programs Committee is please to be hosting the first annual GreenSTART Environmental Competition and Fair. GreenSTART is designed to help the whole town of Atherton and all others start to take actions that can create beneficial impacts for our environment today. Drawing upon the more than 6,000 students in the ten Atherton schools, as well as over 6,000 residents, GreenSTART engages all groups in a "closed loop" of action!
Join us this Sunday, May 4th, for a great time at the GreenSTART Fair!
Everyone is invited to join us for the first annual GreenSTART Fair at Atherton's lovely Holbrook-Palmer Park from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, featuring a showcase of the students' environmental projects, with music by the Banana Slug String Band. There will be fun for kids, delicious and healthy organic goodies baked by local residents, free neck massage, e-waste drop-off and lots more. Plus, we will be hosting the first-ever non-virtual Freecycle Exchange, in conjunction with Freecycle Menlo Park and Palo Alto Freecycle, so grab those treasures that you can't use anymore and swap them for other treasures that you can use—all for free! (You may drop off items at the park starting at 10:00 am!)
Residents: We STILL NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION! Plenty of students are participating but not enough residents have participated (see the breakdown by Atherton neighborhood) but it is not too late! Please support this program with your donation and participation in the home environmental efficiency competition. We need your support! You may donate without first completing your home environmental efficiency form but we hope you'll complete that later. You need to submit only the first page of our Resident Participant Form and the suggested offsetting donation to be able to participate and help us select our winning projects! (So far, Central Atherton is ahead in participation!)
Afterwards, please use our tools to see what ways you can reduce your family's carbon footprint by taking some simple steps (and possibly some harder steps, if you are up for it) to reduce your carbon emissions a little or a lot. Then re-calculate your family's new carbon footprint. See how much you've saved! If you've already taken green steps, let us know—those count! Your donation is a fully tax-deductible contribution to the Atherton GreenSTART FUND that supports the students' environmental competition prizes and projects.
It's a complete WIN-WIN!
Just click on the links to the left to see more program details and learn how you can participate, win prizes and help keep Atherton green! All resident participants will receive a free 2008 GreenZebra Savings Guide. |
